Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Paralegal to join our Surplus & Specialty Lines Legal Department. The role provides critical support to attorneys in bankruptcy matters, collections litigation, regulatory compliance, contract management, and other legal projects. Strong research, organizational, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with AI-powered legal tools is highly valued.
The position may be remote; proximity to the Morristown office and availability onsite twice a week would be a strong plus.
- Monitor bankruptcy email inbox and review daily Chapter 11 filings.
- Cross‑reference filings with C&F insureds to identify relevant cases and research file issues.
- Prepare and distribute notifications of bankruptcy filings to internal and external stakeholders.
- Review and distribute legal mail as necessary.
- Monitor ongoing bankruptcy cases and communicate updates to attorneys.
- Assist in the preparation and filing of proofs of claim.
- Research policy documents to assist attorneys with review and revision of pleadings and affidavits.
- Support attorneys in reviewing, revising, and preparing settlement agreements.
- Assist with responses to discovery requests, including internal research and document gathering.
- Maintain discovery and litigation calendars, tracking deadlines and key dates.
- Analyze and update existing 50‑state regulatory compliance reference charts (Excel/SharePoint).
- Set up, populate, and verify new or restructured regulatory compliance charts.
- Prepare, send, track, and follow up on documents for signature via Docu Sign.
- Create and manage custom contract templates.
- Perform preliminary review of certain third‑party contracts.
- Leverage AI‑powered tools and technology to enhance legal research, document review, and workflow efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Paralegal certification preferred. - 3+ years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, preferably in litigation and transactional or compliance work (5+ years preferred).
- Insurance background and experience supporting bankruptcy matters is a plus.
- Proficiency with Westlaw, Excel, SharePoint, Word, and Docu Sign.
- Experience with and enthusiasm for AI‑powered legal research and productivity tools.
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
