Litigation-Focused | Research, Writing & Discovery Support Remote Position (Monthly In-Person Meetings in St. Petersburg, FL)
The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson, P.A. is a full‑service law firm based in St. Petersburg, Florida. We are seeking a Paralegal to support our civil litigation practice in a structured, deadline‑driven role that includes legal research, analytical writing, discovery support, and client communication under attorney supervision.
This position is litigation‑anchored. The paralegal may occasionally assist with defined non‑litigation matters (including VA Disability work), but litigation deadlines and court obligations always take precedence.
This is a remote position, with the expectation that the paralegal attend one in‑person firm meeting per month in St. Petersburg, Florida.
About the RoleThe Paralegal works closely with attorneys on active litigation matters, primarily hourly civil litigation, with exposure to personal injury and other civil cases as the practice grows. This role is designed for someone who is intellectually engaged, detail‑oriented, and interested in performing substantive litigation support work, including research and analytical drafting—not merely clerical or administrative tasks.
Accuracy, judgment support, and respect for legal process and deadlines are essential.
Core Responsibilities Litigation Research & Writing- Conduct legal research on statutes, procedural rules, and case law at attorney direction
- Prepare research summaries, issue outlines, and case law syntheses
- Draft first‑pass sections of motions, memoranda, and discovery responses for attorney review
- Identify factual and legal gaps, inconsistencies, and supporting authority
- Assist with drafting and organizing discovery responses under attorney supervision
- Review, organize, and summarize discovery materials
- Manage document productions and track deficiencies
- Prepare chronologies, summaries, and exhibit lists
- Draft routine litigation documents (notices, certificates of service, correspondence)
- E‑file documents in Florida courts in accordance with procedural rules
- Track litigation deadlines and case stages using firm systems
- Assist with hearing and trial preparation
- Provide client status updates and explain litigation process steps under supervision
- Coordinate document requests, discovery responses, and scheduling
- Avoid providing legal advice or discussing litigation strategy
- Task‑based assistance on administrative or VA Disability matters, such as:
- Records organization and indexing
- Template‑based drafting
- Deadline tracking and file preparation
All work is performed under attorney supervision and in compliance with the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar.
Qualifications & Attributes Required Traits- Strong analytical and writing ability
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfort working under deadlines and procedural rules
- Ability to follow written procedures while thinking critically
- Willingness to receive feedback and revise work carefully
- Paralegal certificate or legal studies coursework is a plus
- Backgrounds involving litigation, court work, compliance, research, writing, insurance, government, or document‑intensive analysis are strongly encouraged
- $21–$26 per hour, depending on experience, demonstrated research and writing ability, and scope of responsibility
