Overview
The salary for this position is: $4,902 - $6,521 monthly. The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking two Paralegal I positions in the Criminal Division. In this division, these roles provide advanced legal and administrative assistance to prosecutors, support office procedures, guide legal support staff, and manage daily workflow priorities. The Paralegal I may conduct legal research, prepare summaries and draft legal documents for attorney review, and handle specialized, complex projects.
The role requires a high level of independence, sound judgment, and the ability to manage responsibilities with discretion.

Responsibilities- Proficiently perform all duties of a Legal Assistant II.
- Type correspondence, reports, legal pleadings and other material with high standards of accuracy and presentation. Compose responses to routine inquiries from attorneys, agencies and the public. Conduct research on specific subject matter and summarize findings for attorney review. Draft legal documents for attorney review and signature. Review case documents for grammar and content.
- Ensure proper documents are completed and filed in preparation for or as a result of legal motions. Provide assistance and information to the public and witnesses regarding court dates and appearances on criminal cases.
- Perform independent investigations to collect and organize factual information related to criminal or civil litigation, potential litigation, or services to clients. Conduct interviews and obtain related documents as needed. Analyze facts to make preliminary determinations of legal action.
- Provide courtroom support by organizing and preparing trial notebooks, exhibits, scheduling witnesses, taking notes, and related tasks during trial or hearings.
- Communicate with opposing attorneys or parties regarding discovery issues, settlement negotiations, or other litigation matters. May negotiate settlements in uncontested financial matters with approval of a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.
- Extract information from case management systems to generate specialized reports. Research and complete special project assignments. Maintain statistics and prepare statistical reports.
- Prepare presentation materials and deliver educational or informational seminars to community groups.
- Perform lead work duties including coordinating and monitoring staff workload, planning work, setting daily priorities, and developing training plans. Assist in managing office activities, respond to complaints, and foster a positive working environment. May participate in hiring decisions and evaluations, and implement office procedure improvements with supervisory approval. May assume limited duties during leaves of absence.
- Provide office administration support in satellite offices by overseeing inventory and ensuring equipment operation and maintenance.
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment with minimal physical exertion.
- Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional work outside hours may be required. - Travel:
Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, trainings, or court proceedings. - Customer interactions:
Substantial contact with the public and staff; may encounter distressed or emotional individuals.
