Our client, a notable national AmLaw 100 firm, is seeking an experienced Conflicts Attorney to join its Conflicts Clearing team. With appropriate oversight from the Professional Standards Partner, this role plays a critical part in supporting new business intake and managing conflict resolution while protecting the organization and its clients from adversity and risk.
This is a fully remote position. Periodic in person presence is required for annual or bi annual weekend team building events. Attendance at quarterly in person meetings may also be required depending on location.
Key Responsibilities
- Process the intake of prospective new clients and matters on behalf of attorneys
- Perform conflicts checks, review conflict reports, and identify potential conflicts of interest
- Communicate with affected attorneys to resolve conflicts
- Obtain accurate due diligence information required to process new clients and matters
- Draft and analyze engagement letters and scope letters
- Draft waiver letters as needed to clear conflicts of interest
- Ensure all new clients and matters are processed accurately and in compliance with internal policies
- Consult with Finance or Legal teams as needed to process new business requests
- Respond to questions related to conflicts of interest, business intake, and internal policies
- Erect and maintain ethical walls and legal screens when required
- Monitor changes in ethics rules, ethics opinions, and case law related to conflicts of interest
- Monitor client mergers and acquisitions to identify and resolve potential conflicts
- Maintain shared documents to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in a fast paced, high volume environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Sound judgment and discretion when escalating issues
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- High attention to detail with the ability to interpret information from multiple sources
- Strong research, computer, and database skills
- Solid understanding of conflicts of interest principles under the Rules of Professional Conduct
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active U.S. bar admission, preferably in a jurisdiction where the organization has an office
- Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience, preferably within a large law firm environment
- Prior experience in conflicts of interest, professional responsibility, or new business intake strongly preferred
