Position Summary
The primary job function is to assist house counsel with various pre-trial tasks; draft responses; motions and other legal documents; conduct research projects and gather information for claim cases; and correspond with clients to investigate facts in preparation for trial.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:
- $51,546 to $92,927 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)
The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.
Responsibilities- Provides Paralegal Support
:
Searches for, assembles, and summarizes information for the purpose of preparing responses to propounded discovery (forms include interrogatories, requests for admissions, etc.). Corresponds with clients, attorneys and claims personnel to discuss case status, gather information, and respond to routine inquiries; produces a variety of written documents; prepares court documents, discovery, and other pleadings as directed; files pleadings; maintains digital file in case management system;
completes special assignments; prepares initial drafts of administrative reports. Prioritize and reprioritize tasks to ensure timely completion. - Assists attorney in preparation of cases for trial including identifying exhibits, trial books, motions in limine, expert lists, and other required trial documents.
- Research and analyze law sources; investigate facts and case law to determine causes of action and assist in preparation of case.
- Assist insured in Small Claims cases by investigating facts to prepare trial briefs, prepare the insured for trial, attend trials, and defend the company when listed as a named party. Collects and evaluates all file evidence and researches relevant statutes or case law to assist in defense.
- Completion of 4 hours of continuing education or required hours of education in compliance with the rules of State.
- Minimum
:
Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association; or degree with law-related coursework; or high school diploma with relevant experience and a declaration by attorney that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks. This experience and training should be completed no later than December 31, 2003. - Preferred
:
Degree in paralegal studies and/or Paralegal Certificate with 1+ insurance defense or civil litigation experience.
- Minimum
: 0-2 years insurance defense paralegal experience or equivalent. - Preferred
: 1-2+ years paralegal experience in civil litigation / insurance defense.
- Minimum
:
General knowledge of legal principles; ability to draft legal documents; proficient in word processing and case management software; ability to work in a paperless environment and communicate with clients and other parties. - Preferred
:
Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to draft motions and responses; ability to manage day-to-day activities efficiently.
