Job DescriptionJoin Allstate’s legal frontline and play a critical role in recovering losses and defending our insureds and the Company. As a Subrogation Attorney, you will handle auto and property subrogation matters from investigation through resolution, while also defending bodily injury and property damage lawsuits. This role offers the opportunity to lead negotiations, litigate complex matters, and appear in court, arbitration, and mediation proceedings.
You’ll collaborate closely with claims partners and legal colleagues, contribute to strategic decision-making, and drive meaningful financial and operational impact through effective subrogation recovery and litigation outcomes.
Qualified candidates may be eligible for a competitive, one-time $10,000 sign-on bonus
, subject to applicable withholding. The bonus is contingent upon successful completion of Allstate’s hiring process and will be paid within 60 days of the start date.
- Manage all aspects of auto and property subrogation litigation from investigation through resolution, including case evaluation, discovery, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, arbitrations, trials, and post-trial motions.
- Investigate and pursue subrogation claims and litigation opportunities, including identifying liability, evaluating damages, and determining recovery strategies.
- Contact and negotiate with third‑party carriers to resolve auto and property subrogation cases efficiently and effectively.
- Review new file assignments, approve initial pleadings, propound discovery, and develop litigation and negotiation strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Maintain regular communication with insureds and internal clients, providing case updates, answering questions, and documenting communications at least every 90 days.
- Coordinate closely with claims teams to discuss litigation plans, conduct strategy conferences, and ensure consistent updates throughout the life of each case.
- Review and analyze documentary evidence, including claims files, medical records, expert materials, and liability documentation.
- Prepare witnesses, including insureds, clients, and expert witnesses, for depositions, arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
- Conduct depositions and prepare detailed summaries and evaluations to support case strategy and resolution decisions.
- Prepare for and conduct court appearances, including case management conferences, hearings, status conferences, settlement proceedings, and dispositive motions.
- Try and/or arbitrate cases, including preparing motions in limine and drafting post‑trial motions and briefs as needed.
- Manage legal projects and caseloads effectively, ensuring collaboration and coordination across legal, claims, and support teams.
- Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
- 4+ years of litigation experience or equivalent litigation‑adjacent experience, with demonstrated ability to handle court appearances, draft and review legal pleadings, and manage matters from pre‑suit through resolution.
- Strong legal judgment and strategic thinking, with the ability to assess risk, advise internal partners, and make sound recommendations on case strategy and outcomes.
- Proven ability to manage a high‑volume caseload efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with experience working closely with attorneys, paralegals, and administrative professionals, under the direction of Lead Counsel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal research tools (Lexis Nexis preferred), with strong written and analytical skills.
