Scion Legal has been engaged to lead a confidential search on behalf of a respected and growing California based law firm seeking a seasoned Employment Law Partner to join its expanding Employment Law practice. This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior level employment defense attorney with deep experience representing school districts who is looking to take ownership of sophisticated matters, advise high level public sector clients, and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of a collaborative practice.

This role is well suited for an attorney with an exclusive employment law defense background who values proactive case management, strategic counseling, and long term client relationships within the public education space.

What You’ll Bring to the Table
  • 10+ years of employment law experience with an exclusive defense side focus
  • Minimum 8+ years of school district defense experience at a senior associate or partner level
  • Well established background in employment litigation defense, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour matters
  • Strong experience with employment law compliance, including wage and hour audits
  • Hands on experience drafting and advising on employee handbooks, workplace policies, and compliance documentation
  • Demonstrated experience advising school boards, superintendents, and HR leadership
  • Required experience defending school districts and educational institutions
  • Excellent legal research, writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Commitment to proactive, efficient, and strategic case management
  • Active membership in the State Bar of California in good standing
  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited institution
  • At least 80 percent of practice focused on employment law litigation defense over the past five years. Plaintiff side employment experience will not be considered for this role.
Nice to Have Skills
  • Civil trial experience as first or second chair
  • Experience with public entity defense beyond school districts
  • Ability to manage complex, high stakes matters while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strategic mindset with a client service oriented approach
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Proven ability to manage employment law matters from inception through resolution
  • Experience serving as trusted outside counsel to public sector clients
  • Compensation: Highly competitive and commensurate with experience, including quarterly bonus opportunities
  • Level: Senior Associate or Partner
  • Work Model: Remote flexibility with optional office space
  • Partnership Track: Accelerated partnership pathway available
