Attorney - Appellate Practice

One is pleased to partner with a boutique appellate law firm in Detroit in their search for an Attorney to join their growing team. This role is ideal for an attorney early in their career who is eager to build deep appellate experience while working closely with experienced practitioners on sophisticated matters in state and federal courts.

The Appellate Attorney supports appellate matters by conducting legal research, drafting briefs and motions, and assisting with appellate strategy. The firm offers strong mentorship, hands-on training, and increasing responsibility as skills develop.

• Review trial court records and transcripts to assist in identifying appellate issues
• Conduct legal research and case law analysis
• Draft sections of appellate briefs, motions, and petitions under supervision
• Cite-check and edit briefs for accuracy and compliance with court rules
• Assist in preparing oral argument materials and participating in moot courts
• Track deadlines and ensure compliance with appellate procedural rules
• Collaborate with trial teams and senior appellate attorneys

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing with at least one state bar
• 1–3 years of legal experience (appellate experience preferred but not required)
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Familiarity with state and/or federal appellate procedures is a plus
• Judicial clerkship experience is beneficial
• Excellent written communication and analytical skills
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities
• Attention to detail and citation accuracy
• Ability to accept feedback and revise work product
• Professionalism and sound judgment
• All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time. Infrequent lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
