The RoleWe are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly self-motivated regulatory lawyer to be part of our litigation team offering legal support to colleagues across many of the council’s operations.

Primarily a home working environment with occasional attendance at the office to carry out specific tasks e.g. attend meetings/training and court hearings as required. AboutYou
You will need to be a confident court advocate with experience managing a wide range of cases. Experience gained in a local authority environment is desirable but not essential, as cross transferable skills and experience gained elsewhere will be considered.
This post holder will ideally have knowledge and experience in handling a caseload of contentious regulatory matters, including civil and criminal law and will be required to provide comprehensive advice to council departments covering a wide spectrum of public services. If you enjoy variety and like diversity in your work this is the role for you!
The LocationWe are primarily home‑working and the Town Hall is the office base when needed. The candidate will need to be able to travel to North Somerset Magistrates Court, Weston‑super‑Mare and on occasion attend Bristol courts.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Work StyleAt North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office.
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
