Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Billing Coordinator to join our Billing team. We are considering qualified candidates in any of our U.S. offices which includes Century City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, San Diego (Del Mar), San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Washington DC.
This senior-level role is responsible for managing the full billing cycle for a complex, high-volume portfolio supporting 15 or more attorneys, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely invoice submission. The Senior Billing Coordinator serves as a key point of contact for attorneys on billing and reporting matters, supports collections efforts, and independently resolves complex and escalated billing issues. This role is well suited for a polished professional who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment, exercises sound judgment, and brings a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to billing operations.
Functions Of Job
- Prepare invoices in accordance with attorney instructions and client billing guidelines.
- Act as a trusted billing advisor to attorneys and staff, providing clear and concise guidance on billing matters.
- Prepare ad hoc and recurring reports, including analysis of financial and historical data.
- Ensure invoices comply with firm policies, client requirements, and internal controls.
- Prioritize and manage a high volume of work while meeting challenging deadlines.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with attorneys, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Proactively recommend improvements to billing processes and workflows.
- 5+ years of legal billing experience in a mid-to-large size law firm.
- Advanced expertise with Aderant billing software, including complex billing scenarios and reporting.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume, high-value, and complex billing portfolios independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters succinctly.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Ability to consistently meet challenging deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with e-billing platforms such as E-Billing Hub, Bill Blast, Legal Exchange, Tymetrix, Counsel Link, or similar systems.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Computer/Software KnowledgeRequired: Aderant/CMS, Elite, or similar software;
Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high‑rise building).
- Indoor office work environment in a cubical or similar workstation.
- You will be assigned to the closest Sheppard Mullin office but will be allowed to work from home.
- Overtime will be required on occasion as the workload demands.
Illinois:
The wage range for this position is: $44.00 - $52.00 per hour. This position is eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Washington DC:
The pay range for this position is: $41.00 - $49.00 per hour. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good‑faith assessment associated with this position as of the time of this posting and is provided pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.
California:
The pay range for this position is $41.00 to $49.00 per hour.
New York:
