We are seeking an experienced litigation attorney with a strong background in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation to join our nationwide trial division. This fully remote position reports to our Newport Beach Trial Division office and offers a 1:1 attorney/paralegal ratio with no billable hour expectations.

Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate the requisite trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel or as part of a team, ensuring efficiency, proactive case management, work ethic, and high quality work product in accordance with Nationwide Trial Division standard methodology and client expectations.
- Operate with minimal managerial oversight from the Managing Trial Attorney and NTD Leadership.
- Utilize technology effectively and collaborate with support staff to maintain efficient case management.
- Stay consistently aware of changes to law, technology, local rules and other procedural requirements that may impact litigation strategies.
- Possess subject‑matter expertise and advocacy skills for all NTD concentrations held, and be willing to develop additional concentrations as required.
- Provide factually, legally and analytically sound opinions on case valuations, updating and communicating them promptly to client and claims teams.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with key associates in the Office of the Chief Legal Officer, claims partners, and industry colleagues within the relevant jurisdictions.
- Leverage relationships to enhance NTD’s reputation and expand case referral opportunities across the enterprise.
- Communicate effectively, proactively identifying and meeting client, claims, and internal NTD communication expectations.
- Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance, training, and modeling engagement, coaching, efficiency, attitude and collaboration.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to Managing Trial Attorney.
EducationJuris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
License/Certification/DesignationMaintains an active license in the state in which the position is located.
ExperienceTypically, more than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Knowledge, Abilities, and SkillsSignificant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation; ability to engage in complex legal practices and procedures across all courts and agencies in the assigned jurisdiction; highly effective written and verbal communication; collaborative and mentoring skills; negotiation skills; efficient information processing; excellent analytical and legal skills; computer savvy with solid understanding of basic software and electronic filings; strong time‑management and organization;
decision‑making ability; and adherence to private practice, corporate, and NTD policies.

Job Conditions Overtime EligibilityNot Eligible (Exempt).
Working ConditionsNormal office environment; position may be staffed from home. Frequent and occasional overnight travel. Extended hours may be required to meet professional demands. Must have a valid driver’s license with satisfactory record in accordance with Nationwide standards.
