Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with more than 4,000 lawyers and staff across 33 offices, is seeking an Immigration Paralegal (Japanese Bilingual) to join the Morgan Lewis Immigration Team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Legal Practice Support.
This position supports attorneys in preparing and filing a wide range of nonimmigrant and immigrant petitions and applications. Candidates must possess strong written and spoken Japanese proficiency and have at least two years of U.S. business immigration experience, preferably including experience with J-1, E-1/E-2, and L-1 matters.
This position will reside in either our Washington,
D.C, office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.
- Assist attorneys in serving and communicating with Japanese-speaking clients, both in the U.S. and abroad.
- Correspond and coordinate directly with Japanese-speaking clients and prospective clients.
- Prepare and file nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions and applications-including J-1, E-1/E-2/E-3, L-1, H-1B, O-1, I-140 (EB-1/EB-2/EB-3), AOS, EAD, and AP-under the guidance of case managers, account managers, and attorneys.
- Gather required information and documentation from clients through written and oral communication in English and Japanese.
- Keep clients informed of case progress and respond to immigration-related inquiries in a timely manner.
- Enter, update, and maintain information in the immigration case management system.
- Manage assigned caseload and ensure timely completion of all work.
- Track and manage critical deadlines and run active-case and NIV expiration reports.
- Attend team meetings and participate in continuing education programs and seminars.
- Record and close time entries in the firm's timekeeping system.
- Adhere to legal and ethical principles governing paralegal work, including rules on unauthorized practice of law, confidentiality and attorney-client privilege, conflicts of interest, and GDPR compliance.
- Overtime may be required.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- At least two years of U.S. business immigration experience, preferably including experience with J-1, E-1/E-2, and L-1 matters.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Japanese.
- Experience with immigrant and nonimmigrant petitions and applications.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Experience with immigration case management systems such as INSZoom or Law Logix (preferred).
- Ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels and with external clients.

For positions in Washington DC., the salary range for this job posting is: $62,000.00 - $99,200.00
The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package.
The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
