Role Overview
Mercor is collaborating with a leading AI lab on a large-scale AI training initiative focused on improving literary analysis, interpretive reasoning, and culturally grounded text understanding in advanced language models. We’re seeking experienced Literature experts to contribute by creating and evaluating literature-related prompts and responses. This is a multilingual opportunity. We are specifically seeking experts who are fluent and deeply engaged in one or more of the following languages :
Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi. Importantly, we are not looking for translation ability alone. Candidates must have sustained engagement with literary study and discourse within their linguistic and cultural context — including familiarity with canonical works, contemporary literature, literary criticism, genre traditions, and culturally specific interpretive frameworks. This role is ideal for serious readers, literary critics, writers, educators, book reviewers, or dedicated hobbyists who actively participate in literary communities in their language ecosystem.
- Author realistic literature prompts spanning textual analysis, thematic interpretation, genre comparison, author studies, narrative technique, and literary history
- Review and revise AI-generated responses for interpretive depth, textual accuracy, cultural nuance, and clarity
- Write high-quality human-authored “gold” responses for complex or open-ended literary questions
- Create controlled prompt variations that test subtle differences in genre, time period, author background, narrative perspective, or critical lens
- Evaluate outputs across different tones (academic, analytical, conversational) and instruction constraints
- Identify model failure cases involving misinterpretation, shallow analysis, incorrect attribution, or culturally inconsistent readings
- 2+ years of sustained, serious engagement with literature as a hobby or scholarly pursuit (e.g., extensive reading, literary analysis, writing reviews or essays, participation in reading groups or literary forums)
- Active participation in literary discourse within at least one of the following languages :
Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian, German, Arabic, Thai, Tamil, or Hindi - Strong familiarity with literary terminology, genre traditions, and culturally specific literary movements within your language context
- Ability to articulate nuanced textual analysis clearly and persuasively in the target language
- Strong written communication skills and thoughtful editorial judgment
Expected commitment : 10–40 hours per week
Application Process- Submit your resume, writing samples, or relevant literary work to get started
- Complete a short form outlining your literary background, areas of focus, and language proficiency
- We aim to follow up within a few days with next steps
