Position Summary

Exercise independent discretion in handling all types of catastrophe property claims. Assist the assigned field office when not deployed to catastrophes, handling day‑to‑day property claims.

What You’ll Do
  • Investigate, evaluate, and resolve property claims from catastrophes and large‑scale events.
  • Conduct on‑site inspections, estimate damages, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with policyholders throughout the claims process.
  • Collaborate with claims teams and external resources to deliver fair, timely resolutions.
  • Represent ERIE Insurance professionally and compassionately in the field.
What Makes You Stand Out
  • Previous experience as a Property, Catastrophe, or Field Adjuster.
  • Ability to work independently while traveling extensively, often on short notice.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Customer‑first mindset and passion for helping people recover after loss.
  • Valid driver’s license (required).
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish immediate contact with policyholders regarding their loss, traveling to the site of damage within the assigned territory.
  • Set and manage adequate reserves within designated authority.
  • Identify and assess damage, determine liability, and total claim value.
  • Prepare a proper estimate, obtain an agreed scope of work and repair cost with contractor or policyholder.
  • Document claim files thoroughly and submit final report for closure.
  • Determine or decline payment, issue checks, and negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary.
  • Assign and supervise independent adjusters on property losses when required; advise on claim handling.
  • Attend industry training programs to stay current on legal developments and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist assigned field office(s) when not on Catastrophe Duty; bring claims to conclusion.
  • Maintain the Sprinter Van used by the CAT adjuster on a monthly basis.
