Overview

Under general supervision, this position will be part of the Claims Legal team, providing settlement authority and general strategic support for claims/exposures that exceed the line unit’s authority. The role includes analyzing jurisdictional concerns, ensuring consistency in claims positions, and assisting in consulting on complex claim files reported to Claims Legal.

Responsibilities
  • Consult with claims staff on a variety of claims issues, including coverage, indemnification, policy limit demand reviews, indemnity agreement reviews, and release language reviews.
  • Identify coverage issues requiring outside counsel and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
  • Directly handle some policyholder suits and collaborate with outside counsel in managing litigation; attend mediations as needed.
  • Assist in training claims staff on jurisdictional issues and Fair Claims Practices.
  • Respond to insurance claims questions from various departments.
  • Collaborate with the Claims Legal team to provide excellent service to claims staff.
  • Track claim files reported to Claims Legal, stay organized, and diary cases for follow-up.
  • Participate in roundtable discussions on claims topics and lead follow-up actions.
  • Work with Panel Counsel to ensure consistency of service to CIG insureds and participate in identifying new firms to join the Panel list.
  • Coordinate with Analysts in Claims Legal to ensure consistency of Reinsurance reporting as required.
  • Analyze complex insurance claim situations and develop recommendations for claims staff.
  • Manage conflicting requests from multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, work independently and in a team, and interface with multiple levels of the organization.
