Underwriter OR Underwriting Specialist - Middle Market

Zurich Insurance is hiring for the Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist – Middle Market role located in Long Island, NY. This position focuses on serving as a customer advocate, improving the customer experience by understanding unique risks and offering end‑to‑end solutions for Middle Market P&C insurance needs.

• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, partners and customers across all industries to support business objectives.
• Leverage underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
• Collaborate across business units including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuarial and technical underwriting to gain extensive industry knowledge.
• Use technical underwriting, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners within an assigned territory.

Middle Market Underwriter

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1+ years of experience in Insurance or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, legal & regulatory environment.
• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.

OR

Middle Market Underwriting Specialist

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 1+ years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with Associate Degree and 4+ years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal & regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Established relationships with Property & Casualty broker partners.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• CPCU and ARM a plus.

• Salary range: $73,400.00 – $;
  Underwriter $73,400.00 – $ with 10% short‑term incentive bonus;
  Underwriting Specialist $92,900.00 – $ with 10% short‑term incentive bonus.
