Executive Underwriter OR AVP, Underwriting Director - Excess Casualty

Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Excess Casualty to join our Excess & Specialty (E&S) team based in one of the following locations:
Maitland, FL;
Charlotte, NC;
Atlanta, GA;
Dallas, TX; or Houston, TX.

This role will be based at one of those locations with the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports our customers, brokers, and agents. You will be visible in the marketplace and meet with agents and brokers, working with national wholesalers to drive growth focused on profitability.

• Proactively seek new account opportunities and manage existing renewal accounts.
• Demonstrate specialized knowledge and expertise in underwriting excess casualty lines of business.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Contribute to the development and completion of proposals.
• Qualify accounts that meet the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.
• Make agent, broker, and customer on‑sight calls with planned purpose.
• Negotiate terms and conditions and close deals.
• Cross‑sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
• Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers or territory.
• Engage proactively in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90–120 days prior to effective date.
• Develop strong broker and client networks in industries underwritten by the business unit.

Basic Qualifications for Executive Underwriter – Excess Casualty:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.

Basic Qualifications for AVP, Underwriting Director – Excess Casualty:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of E&S commercial insurance industry experience.
• Technical knowledge of excess underwriting within E&S.
• Established wholesale broker relationships (E&S brokers).
• Creative problem‑solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The combined salary range for this position is $98,500.00 – $. For the Executive Underwriter role the range is $98,500.00 – $, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. For the Underwriting Director the range is $ – $, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
