Contractors Segment Underwriter - hybrid location in our Morristown NJ office

Job Summary

Summary

Primary Responsibilities

Responsible for the review and analysis of underwriting data to build and maintain a profitable book of business within the Contractors segment. Will manage agency relationships through continued customer service and marketing activities. Will also collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals.

The position will report directly to the AVP for the assigned region. Performance evaluations will be conducted quarterly with input from other officers within the Contractors segment.

The underwriter will be accountable for contributing to the achievement of the Contractors segment business plan for the region, including new business, renewal retention, pricing and profitability.

Gather, review and analyze all necessary underwriting information to conduct proper risk selection, exposure analysis and premium determination for risks within the defined Contractors segment appetite.

Assist in the identification and development of new construction producers within the region. Maintain and improve existing relationships with targeted contractor segment producers within the region.

Service existing accounts and coordinate the stewardship plan for qualified Contractors segment accounts.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Meet profitability, retention, rate, and written premium goals determined by the Contractors Segment.
• Makes independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation.
• Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
• Has an in-depth knowledge of Contractors segment products and services.
• Can clearly articulate the Contractors segment’s value proposition.
• Participates in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base. May participate in projects.
• Travel as required. (15%-20%)
• Other duties as assigned.

Recommended Education & Requirements

· Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of underwriting middle market and/or larger contractors experience preferred.

· Possesses strong communication and analytical skills to pursue new business and manage a renewal book.

· Proficient in software needed to succeed in department.

· Work from home capabilities.

· Excellent organizational and time management skills.

· Possesses or is pursuing underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization. CRIS preferred
