Colorado Intergovernmental Risk Sharing Agency (CIRSA), based in Denver, Colorado, has an opening for a Workers’ Compensation Claims Examiner. CIRSA is an insurance pool that specializes in providing property/liability and workers’ compensation coverages and services for municipalities and affiliated public entities across the state.

Under the direction of the Claims Manager, the position is responsible for reviewing and processing new and existing workers’ compensation claims; inputting and maintaining claim data; conducting investigations on claims to obtain information for processing and compensability evaluation; documenting claims with medical, legal or subrogation claims; reporting indemnity claims to the Division of Workers’ Compensation; identifying subrogation and claimants eligible for Medicare, SSDI (Social Security Disability Income), pension, FPPA (Fire Police Pension Act), unemployment and other offsets;
authorizing or denying medical treatment, therapy, surgeries, supplies and other procedures; communicating with medical providers regarding claims and case management; monitoring legal aspects of claims to include attending hearings, preparing and filing legal documents, evaluating claims for settlement, and working with legal counsel on claims for which defense counsel is assigned; acting as a liaison with member municipalities and reporting workplace hazards or high loss frequencies to Risk Control Department.
This position requires 2+ years of progressively responsible workers’ compensation claims handling experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Must have knowledge of Colorado Workers’ Compensation Act, Colorado Workers’ Compensation Rules of Procedure, Colorado Workers’ Compensation fee schedules, Colorado administrative and judicial decisions affecting workers’ compensation claims, and related regulations and procedures.

The salary range for the position is $61,786 to $92,679. The hiring range, depending on qualifications, is $61,786 to $77,232.

- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. - Work Experience:
At least 2 years of professional-level experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above. - Knowledge of Colorado’s Workers’ Compensation Act, Colorado Workers’ Compensation Rules of Procedure and fee schedules; administrative and judicial decisions affecting workers’ compensation claims, and related case law, regulations and procedures.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred.
