Our client, a leading insurance organization is looking to add a Senior Middle Market Underwriter to join their team. This position is ideal for a hands‑on, strategic underwriter who thrives in a fast‑paced, relationship‑focused environment and enjoys balancing profitable renewal management with targeted new business development. This person will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of commercial accounts, focusing on profitable growth and maintaining a renewal book and generating new business.
The ideal candidate will evaluate both admitted and non‑admitted submissions, making informed underwriting decisions within delegated authority levels. This is a remote position.
- Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
- Responsible for management of regional brokers and the development for assigned brokers.
- Review loss experience, insurance to value, loss control reports, in addition to other relevant risk factors.
- Make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation; assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers.
- Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
- Determine appropriate premium levels and coverages for commercial package and umbrella policies based on rates and individual risk characteristics.
- Effectively display the ability to build and foster relationships by managing assigned territories, agents, and accounts.
- Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
- 5 - 10+ years of experience in Commercial P&C Underwriting, with a solid track record of managing a book of business
- E&S experience is a plus
- Strong underwriting knowledge in the following lines of business:
General Liability, Auto, Property, and Umbrella - Strong communication, analytical skills, and business acumen
- Existing relationships with independent agents and producers within the Region
- Bachelor's degree highly preferred
- $85,000 to $125,000 Annual Based Salary (Depending on Experience)
