Senior Underwriter, Commercial

Remote position with occasional travel to the Mountain region for in‑person agency visits. Ideal candidates will live and work remotely in AZ, UT, CO, NM, NV, WY or surrounding states.

• Develop, grow, and maintain diversified books of business while working closely with agents and brokers.
• Assess risks, determine premiums, set conditions and negotiate deals to maximize profitability and meet business goals.
• Write new accounts with premiums of $100,000 and below, and pursue renewals.
• Crunch numbers and review data to determine risk selection, premiums, policies, and conditions; identify opportunities for growth, profit, and diversification.
• Maintain successful relationships with agents and brokers, present proposals, negotiate deals, and obtain approvals.
• Mentor underwriters, share best practices, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Document account reviews, state‑compliant sign‑offs, referrals, letters of authority, and follow underwriting guidelines.

• 3‑5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
• Experience with multi‑line insurance products.

• Analytical, problem‑solving capabilities.
• Strong territory management skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to build rewarding relationships with agents, brokers, and underwriters.

• Insurance finance and actuarial concepts.
• Commercial insurance products, underwriting, risk selection, pricing, marketplaces, and regulatory issues.
• Contract language and policy differences among applicable states.
• Continuous improvement processes and tools.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Chartered Property Casual Underwriter or other professional designations preferred.
