Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter - MM Technology

Overview

Zurich is seeking an experienced Middle Market Underwriter to join the Technology Industry Practice. This role can be based in Los Angeles or Irvine (hybrid). The position supports the Technology Underwriting team in Southern California and requires in-office presence 3 days per week.

This role may be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed.

• Serve as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding risk and offering end-to-end insurance solutions.
• Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Use risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Identify gaps and align Zurich’s products and value proposition to deliver contract certainty for the customer.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and act as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
• Market-facing activities and production within the growing Middle Markets division.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing roles, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ year of underwriting or market-facing experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years of claims or underwriting support experience plus knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines, and knowledge of quote timing for new and renewal business, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years of claims or underwriting support experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of claims or underwriting support experience.

• Existing broker relationships in the Southern California region.
• Cyber and E&O experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Knowledge of Middle Markets Property and Casualty underwriting.
• Strong negotiation, verbal and written communication skills, and relationship-building, with active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating abilities.

The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000.00 - $, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $98,500.00 - $, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility at 15%.
