Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter - MM Technology

Overview

Zurich is seeking an experienced Middle Market Underwriter to join the Technology Industry Practice. This is a growing team with opportunities in Southern California. The position is based in Los Angeles or Irvine with a hybrid work arrangement. The role requires visibility in the marketplace, with in-office presence three days a week.

As a Technology Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal Middle Markets business and serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Technology practice. You will work with Zurich's Underwriting Team to apply and hone underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with Preferred Distribution Partners within the Southern California region. This role may be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level depending on experience and skillset.

Hybrid work with in-office presence in Southern California (Los Angeles or Irvine). Expect to be in the office 3 days per week to meet with agents and brokers.

• Serve as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end-to-end solution for their insurance needs.
• Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Use risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
• Identify gaps and align Zurich’s products and value proposition to offer solutions that provide contract certainty for customers.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and operate as an innovative advisor.
• Underwrite, analyze, and generate new and renewal business.
• Maintain market-facing activity and production within the growing Middle Markets division.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area; OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 6+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area; OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience; OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support, AND knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience; OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years of claims or underwriting support experience; OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years of underwriting or market-facing experience; OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years of claims or underwriting support experience.

• Existing broker relationships in the SoCal region
• Cyber and E&O experience preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Knowledge of Middle Markets Property and Casualty underwriting
• Strong negotiation skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong relationship-building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating skills; demonstrates presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation
• Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and filing regulations and guidelines

Your pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills, and experience. Local laws are followed to ensure fair compensation. You may be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $. The proposed salary ranges are:
Underwriting Specialist $75,000.00 - $ with a 10% short-term incentive;
Executive Underwriter $98,500.00 - $ with a 15% short-term incentive.
