As the Underwriting Chapter Lead for NSW, you’ll guide and develop a team of Life Underwriters, driving high performance, technical excellence, and a positive culture across the Retail Life Underwriting function. You’ll oversee the assessment of Life, TPD, Trauma and Income Protection applications, ensuring underwriting quality, compliance, and exceptional customer and adviser experience.

Working closely with advisers, distribution partners, reinsurers, and internal teams, you’ll represent underwriting across your state or region and contribute to strategy, process improvement, and the adoption of Agile ways of working. You’ll play an active role in shaping underwriting capability, supporting change initiatives, and fostering ongoing professional growth—both for your team and yourself.

  • Proven leadership experience in Life Underwriting or related insurance roles.
  • Strong people leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring, and developing others.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and manage diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep technical understanding of life underwriting principles aud audit regulatory requirements, and market dynamics.
  • Established high level underwriting authorities and sound decision making capability.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to balance quality, pace, and customer outcomes.
  • Exceptional time management and organisational skills.
  • A growth mindset, resilience, and the ability to lead through change.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and wellbeing focused team culture.
  • Customer centric approach with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confidence using relevant IT systems and digital tools.
  • ANZIIF Cert IV in Life Insurance (or equivalent).
  • ALUCA CPLI accreditation (preferred).
