Regional Facility Compute Architect

* Job Summary:

** As a
** Regional Facility Compute Architect**, you will contribute to the success of Caterpillar’s remote office/back office (ROBO) compute environment.  In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the complete lifecycle of remote office servers and supporting infrastructure.  This includes planning, creating design solutions, deploying, and monitoring to ensure the computer infrastructure operates at maximum reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

* Design, document, deploy, and manage remote office computer solutions through all phases of lifecycle management for Dell and Cisco server equipment deployed at enterprise hosting locations and local facilities.
* Support infrastructure and deployment projects across multiple regions and locations.
* Partner with hardware, software, and vendor teams on the development of data center solutions.
* Provide project participation, advice, and counsel to IT personnel, management, and project teams on various aspects of remote office compute hardware and software.
* Lead in the design of IT vendor hardware to meet organizational needs. Establish and implement global security and operational best practices and adhere to IT Controls.
* Adhere to IT Service Management processes, instruction, and procedural documentation.
* Work with application support teams/customers/operations/application teams to develop plans to minimize the technical and/or business impact of computer environment changes.
* Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve complex problems within the compute environments.

** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

** Knowledge of emerging technologies; ability to design, apply and evaluate new information technologies for business environments.
** Hardware

Infrastructure:
** Knowledge of computer architecture and systems programming; ability to design, build and integrate IT hardware into multi-platforms for the organization.
** Requirements Analysis**:
Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
* Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.
* Ensures the successful completion of all major activities, tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.
* Supervises the advanced use of requirements analysis tools and services, including prototyping and use cases.
* Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.
* Trains others on requirements walkthroughs and quality reviews.
* Utilizes automated diagramming tools to ensure traceability of requirements.
** Technical Troubleshooting:
** Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
* 10+ years designing, deploying, and operating remote office compute infrastructure.
* Experience with Dell and Cisco server/computer hardware and any other server hardware that could be relevant.
* Experience with server virtualization (VMware, Nutanix, etc.)
* Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
* Ability to communicate service interruptions is critical; management and impacted customer base must be aware of the situation and anticipated recovery time.
* Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and delivering against deadlines in a complex global environment
