Data Engineer
As an intern in Data & Analytics Engineering team, you will support ING Analytics department with migrating from ING’s private cloud (IPC) to public cloud (GCP) in order to enable our Gen-AI and agentic AI use cases.
The aim of th is is graduate internship is to have quantitative comparison of different tools and processing frameworks that are available in Google Cloud to determine which one is optimal for migration, in terms of resource usage, scalability and maintainability.
The teamThe Lighthouse squad is integral to the ING Analytics department tech strategy as it owns many of the core data assets that are used by the Wholesale Banking products. The data assets we produce are currently processed on ING’s in-house built Data Analytics Platform which operates using open-source technologies.
Key Responsibilities- Research different approaches available on GCP for data processing.
- Compare GCP Orchestration Services (Cloud Run Jobs, Vertex Pipelines/Kube Flow, Cloud Composer/Airflow).
- Compare data processing frameworks (Polars, Spark, dbt).
- Compare storage systems (Big Query, Cloud SQL).
- Test the different approaches on isolated deployment environments (TST/ACC/PROD) while collecting metrics on resource usage (compute, storage, cost) and efficiency (duration).
- Collaborate with the team on deciding the architectural approaches that should be considered for target solution.
- Document the results and propose a target solution.
- Present your findings in Data & Analytics Engineering department meeting.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Basic knowledge of Python programming.
- Interest in data and AI engineering.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
A dynamic and international environment. As part of the Data & Analytics Engineering team, you will collaborate within a cross-functional group responsible for end-to-end delivery and ownership, contributing in an Agile manner throughout the application lifecycle.
Hands-on experience in data & AI engineering in our global analytics department.
Exposure to senior professionals and industry leaders.
Introduction to data engineering concepts and latest technologies in GCP.
