Schneiders Saddlery is hiring a Head of Technology to own our entire tech stack and build AI-powered automation across the business. Contract-to-hire opportunity with significant upside for the right candidate.

The Role

As Head of Technology, you’ll be the primary technical owner for the company. This is a hands‑on engineering role – you’ll write code (with AI), architect systems, and ship production features.

Key Responsibilities:

Own the complete technology stack (e‑commerce platform, ERP integrations, data infrastructure)
Build AI-powered automation for business operations (customer service, inventory, reporting)
Turn CEO prototypes into production‑ready systems
Architect and implement integrations between Shopify Plus, Fulfil.io ERP, and internal tools
Establish development practices and CI/CD pipelines
Work directly with CEO and fractional CTO on technical strategy

What Makes This Role Different

AI‑Native Development

Required:

We use Claude Code and Cursor for 100% of code generation. You must have an established AI development workflow – not just autocomplete, but directing AI to build complete systems.

E‑Commerce Experience

Required:

You’ve built on Shopify, Magento, Big Commerce, or similar platforms. You understand orders, inventory, customers, and integrations at a technical level.

Direct Business Impact: No layers between you and leadership. Your work directly affects company operations. You’ll automate processes that currently require manual effort.

CEO Who Codes: The CEO builds working prototypes with Claude Code. You’ll turn his POCs into production systems. This requires someone comfortable with ambiguity.

Requirements Must‑Have:

5+ years software engineering experience
E-commerce platform experience (Shopify preferred)
Proficiency in Python AND JavaScript/Type Script
Active user of Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding tools
Systematic approach to AI‑assisted development
Strong problem‑solving and process improvement skills
US‑based (remote work)

Nice‑to‑Have:

Experience with ERP integrations
Big Query or data warehouse experience

AWS infrastructure experience
Previous startup or small company experience

Compensation & Benefits Contract Phase (Months 1-3):

$75/hour
Flexible hours (part‑time or full‑time)
Clear success metrics

Full‑Time (Month 4+):

$150,000 base salary
Performance bonus up to 100% of base
