What You'll Be Doing
Wake County Information Technology is seeking an inquisitive Data Analyst to join our Data and Analytics team. This role will leverage data to drive informed decision-making, deliver actionable insights and support strategic planning across County departments.
Working under the direction of the Chief Data Officer
, you will partner with departments to align data strategy with business goals, develop Power BI reports and dashboards, support enterprise data management efforts and mentor users through our aWake (Analytics at Wake County) community.
This position is ideal for a collaborative, curious professional passionate about using data to drive meaningful impact across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities Include- Develop and publish Power BI reports, dashboards and other data‑driven reports
- Work closely with departmental business analysts and subject‑matter experts to understand requirements and translate that into a reporting solution
- Provide clear, insightful interpretation of available data
- Follow established guidelines and best practices for analytics development and data quality
- Assist with user testing and troubleshooting
- Recommend and create visualizations based on analytics best practices

Required– The Basics (Required
Education and Experience )
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Three years of experience in data science and analytics
- Five years of experience in data science or analytics may be substituted for the combined education and experience requirements
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Education and Experience )
- Power BI Certification a plus
- Familiarity with government services is highly desirable
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience developing reports and dashboards using Power BI or comparable Business Intelligence platforms
- 2+ years of experience with data analysis and visualization
- 2+ years of experience with SQL and at least one other programming language
- Solid understanding of relational databases and semantic data models
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous learning in data tools, methodologies and best practices
- Excellent skills and the ability to develop robust reports and dashboards, translating business requirements into functional data solutions
- Ability to explain complex analyses in plain language and enjoy collaborating with technical and non‑technical teams
- Solid skills turning datasets into meaningful stories using tools like Power BI
- Ability to be curious, detail‑oriented and eager to learn something new
- Demonstrated ability to work with imperfect data, excellent organizational skills and communication skills

Hiring Range: $70,052 – $119,086;
