Database Administrator, Data Engineer
Position Title: Database Administrator III (MS SQL Server)
Location: Remote — must reside near one of the following cities:
Richmond, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas, San Francisco
Clearance Requirements: None
Position Status: Contract (18 months, possible extension or conversion)
Pay Rate: $65–$70/hour
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder (minimum 3 years)
Position DescriptionWe are seeking a Database Administrator III with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, database performance tuning, backup/recovery, and database security to support enterprise-scale production systems. This role is ideal for a hands‑on DBA who thrives in high‑availability environments, enjoys solving complex performance challenges, and can work independently while collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams.
You will manage mission‑critical databases, optimize performance, ensure data integrity, and implement scalable database solutions that support large‑scale financial and enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities- Administer and maintain production and non‑production SQL Server databases
- Configure database parameters, storage structures, and access controls
- Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning/testing
- Monitor database performance and proactively optimize queries and indexes
- Design and implement physical data models and database schemas
- Manage database security, permissions, and compliance requirements
- Allocate and tune database resources for performance and cost efficiency
- Maintain data dictionaries, repositories, and warehousing structures
- Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and system issues
- Collaborate with developers, architects, and infrastructure teams
- 5–7+ years of hands‑on Database Administration experience
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including:
- T‑SQL scripting
- Performance tuning & query optimization
- Security configuration
- Strong experience with backup, restore, and disaster recovery
- Knowledge of database design, data modeling, and indexing strategies
- Experience with monitoring tools and database performance analysis
- Solid understanding of database architecture, storage, and resource allocation
- Ability to work independently and make technical decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- SQL Server certifications or relevant database certifications
- Experience supporting high‑availability or enterprise environments
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts
- Exposure to automation or scripting for DBA tasks
