DevOps Engineer

Role Purpose

The Purpose of the Dev Ops Engineer I is to assist the Dev Ops Practice Manager in the Dev Sec Ops Discipline  with Dev Ops best practices, training, coaching, pipeline implementation, roadmap, and the rollout of Dev Ops standards and toolchain used by IT development and operation teams. This includes creating and maintaining both continuous integration, deployment, and release patterns using scripting languages to create templates for use by the team for all types of deployments and technologies used.

Role Description

• Implement best practice and technology standards and guidelines are defined, agreed and available to all teams.

• Consult with security team and implement all aspects of security within Dev Ops pipelines, tools and solutions to automate security aspects on security items.

• Implement and perform cybersecurity measures and continuously conduct risk assessment on the various Dev Ops processes within Shoprite.

• Provide occasional assistance to IT Operation Dev Ops Engineers with incidence management and root cause analysis on Dev Ops implementations.

• Implement the defined and set development, test, release, update, and support processes for Dev Sec Ops  operations.

• Assist IT teams with the implementation processes.

• Assist with the automation of provisioning infrastructure by using various scripting languages.

• Test automation processes, tools and best practices to assist QA Engineers and implementation teams with test automation scripts, including integration to test automation tools.

• Provide occasional assistance to IT Operation Dev Ops Engineers with incidence management and root cause analysis on Dev Ops implementations.

• Facilitate workshops in identifying Dev Ops capabilities and shortfalls within development and operations environments and propose Dev Ops maturity roadmap per team/technology.

• Partner with Dev Ops Engineers in IT Operations to implement coaching, mentoring, training and support with pipeline automation, configuration management and provisioning of Infrastructure as a Service.

• Assist the Dev Ops Practice Manager with updating and maintaining existing Dev Sec Ops  training material, the Dev Ops SharePoint site and the creation of new Dev Ops training material and Dev Ops documentation.

Qualifications and experience

• Degree/Diploma in IT, Software Development, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field - (essential).

• Industry Cloud or Dev Ops from Microsoft or Amazon Web Services - (desired).

• +2 years' relevant work experience in Dev Ops Engineering - (essential).

• Experience with specific exposure to mentoring and coaching a team emerging senior software Dev Ops Engineers - (essential).

• Expertise in a variety of SDLC tools as Atlassian Stack (Jira, Bitbucket) - (essential).

• Knowledge and experience in both architecture and implementation-level software design -(essential).

• Experience in a retail environment - (desired).
