Overview

Our client, a leading international insurer operating across multiple global markets, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its high-performing pricing and analytics function in London.

This is a strategic opportunity for an experienced data science professional to lead high-impact analytical initiatives across underwriting, claims, operations, and customer functions. The role combines deep technical expertise with commercial influence, offering increased ownership, autonomy, and cross-functional exposure within a complex and regulated environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to shaping best practice in model development, governance, and responsible AI while mentoring junior colleagues and acting as a technical referral point within the team.

Please note:

The right to work in the UK is required for this role. Sponsorship may be considered at our client’s discretion.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, commercially impactful analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions.
  • Lead multi-stakeholder analytical projects, defining structure, governance, cadence, and deliverables.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into clearly defined analytical problems with measurable success criteria.
  • Apply specialist domain knowledge (e.g., pricing or insurance modelling) to complex commercial challenges.
  • Act as a technical referral point for Data Scientists, advising on modelling techniques, data quality, coding standards, and solution design.
  • Present clear and compelling insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, with strong emphasis on commercial implications.
  • Ensure all models and outputs meet governance, documentation, and regulatory standards (including GDPR and emerging AI regulations).
  • Promote robust development practices including version control, peer review, testing, and model risk management.
  • Contribute to the evolution of data science methodologies, internal tooling, and governance frameworks.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members to support technical excellence and professional development.
Requirements
  • Proven data science experience within commercial insurance.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering advanced analytics or machine learning solutions with sustained business impact.
  • Experience leading analytical work streams or projects across multiple stakeholders.
  • Advanced Python skills (pandas, Num Py, scikit-learn, visualisation libraries).
  • Experience working in cloud-based Linux environments (Azure, AWS, GCP, Databricks).
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices (Git, modular code design, reproducible workflows).
  • Knowledge of model governance, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI principles.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching junior data professionals.
  • Strong commercial acumen and ability to operate effectively in cross-functional environments.
Benefits
  • 30 days annual leave, with the option to purchase additional days.
  • Flexible working arrangements including hybrid, part-time, job share, and compressed hours options.
  • Employer pension contributions of 10% of basic salary.
  • Private medical insurance for employees and their families.
  • Enhanced parental leave policies (26 weeks full pay).
  • Short-term remote working abroad (up to 20 days per year from approved locations).
  • Cycle-to-work scheme (up to £5,000).
  • Strong commitment to sustainability, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
