• Advanced level experience designing web-based application user interfaces that are accessible and mobile friendly to users, adhering to relevant accessibility guidelines meeting or exceeding WCAG 2.1 AA or higher requirements, compliance with related regulations such as the American Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 508, with experience using Angular. (4+ years)
• Advanced level experience identifying, documenting and implementing accessibility, mobile and usability standards, processes and guidance within an organization. (4+ years)
• Experience using accessibility tools and techniques to ensure compliance with requirements, such as Lighthouse, Axe dev, NVDA, Aria, Jaws, ANDI. (4+ years)
• Experience designing user interfaces by using tools such as Adobe XD, Figma for prototyping, user flows and wireframes.

• Experience working at DNR or in another Government agency.
• Experience working with Microsoft Suite, including SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.
• UX certifications or training in UX design and accessibility standards.

• Real time screenshot photo required for all confirmed interviews.
• 1st Round Interview will consist of a 60-minute in-person interview.
• Potential 2nd Round Interview – a 60-minute in-person interview.

Onsite or Remote? Candidates MUST be WI residents or willing to relocate to WI within 30 calendar days of start date. Local candidates preferred. Headquarters is downtown Madison, WI. Services to DNR must be physically completed within the State of Wisconsin including during remote work. Hybrid, on a weekly basis DNR is currently 60% remote and 40% in the office. Hybrid requirement is weekly not monthly.

New contractor must start onsite for a five-day orientation/onboarding. Work cannot be conducted outside the United States.

This position will plan for, identify and document standards, processes and guidance for custom applications user interfaces, specifically addressing accessibility and mobile friendly techniques. The position translates functional needs into user-friendly designs, conducts accessibility testing, and ensures applications provide consistent, responsive experience across devices and assistive technologies. This position would also review applications for meeting accessibility WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. This position will primarily work with Custom Apps Supervisors and Application Architect Lead along with collaborations with other IT staff and development teams.

To be successful, the designer will need to take initiative and own tasks or products, plan work along with being self‑motivating including excellent communications, time management, listening, collaboration, problem solving and adaptability skillsets.

• Must follow both State of Wisconsin and DNR Acceptable Technology, Access, and Security related policies as well as work guidance.
• Regular work hours are during business hours between 7:00 – 5:30pm. Should be available for after‑hour deployments.
• Must have reliable high‑speed internet provided at own expense if working remotely.
• State holidays are not paid unless part of work agreement. No overtime and no weekend differential. Work on state holidays must be approved.
• At the end of the contract, the equipment must be returned. If it cannot be dropped off in person or if DNR equipment is damaged during the contract, replacement and shipping is done at supplier’s expense. If equipment cannot be dropped off for computer replacements, the shipping is at the supplier's expense.
