Lead Platform Engineer - Search Infrastructure; Hybrid

We are working with a rapidly scaling, cloud-native technology company building a large, data-intensive platform used in mission‑critical environments. As the platform grows in scale and complexity, the company is investing heavily in its core platform and search capabilities.

This role is designed for a senior engineer who wants full ownership of architecture and build‑out, particularly around search platforms and modern retrieval systems, including vector-based approaches.

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will act as a senior individual contributor responsible for designing, evolving, and building core platform services. You will own architectural decisions, drive implementation, and partner closely with engineering, data, and AI teams to ensure the platform remains performant, scalable, and cost‑efficient.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives on solving hard distributed systems problems and enjoys being accountable for real production systems at scale.

• Own architecture and implementation of core platform services with a focus on scalability, reliability, and low latency.
• Design and build search infrastructure, including indexing pipelines, query services, and retrieval systems.
• Work with modern search patterns, including vector indexing and similarity search, in production environments.
• Design and scale distributed systems supporting authentication/authorization, data lifecycle management, real‑time event processing, and operational intelligence.
• Proactively identify performance and scalability bottlenecks and define strategies to support significant growth.
• Collaborate with product and application teams to deliver platform capabilities that support new features and high‑volume workloads.
• Build and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code to automate and standardize cloud deployments.
• Improve observability, monitoring, and incident response capabilities across the platform.
• Set technical standards and best practices through design reviews and technical documentation.

• 10+ years of experience building and scaling distributed, cloud‑native systems in production.
• Proven experience owning architecture and making key technical decisions as a senior IC or architect.
• Strong background in search infrastructure, including large‑scale indexing and retrieval systems.
• Hands‑on experience with vector search / similarity search and related data structures or platforms.
• Deep experience with public cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of event‑driven architectures, messaging systems, and data pipelines.
• Expertise in infrastructure‑as‑code and CI/CD for production environments.
• Strong grasp of observability, performance tuning, and reliability engineering.
• Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively across multiple teams.
