The Database Services team is seeking an experienced Senior Oracle & SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to provide technical leadership for mission‑critical databases supporting the UC retirement system. This role will be the primary DBA for operational support, performance tuning, migrations, and ongoing maintenance of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments hosted in AWS, with additional backup responsibility for DB2 and MySQL platforms.

The Senior DBA will lead initiatives to modernize and migrate databases in AWS, leverage native AWS database services, and define standards and best practices for an enterprise‑class database environment. Lead performance tuning and optimization, including SQL tuning, index strategies, statistics management, query plan analysis, and configuration tuning at the database, OS, and storage layers. Develop and present technical studies, health assessments, and performance reports to management and senior technical staff.

Document technical tasks, standards, and runbooks for use by other team members.

Administer Extract and Replicat processes, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of high-volume replication scenarios. Perform performance tuning of Golden Gate, including lag optimization and resource utilization. Conduct root cause analysis on replication failures, data discrepancies, and performance bottlenecks.

10% Support and maintain additional RDBMS platforms including MySQL and DB2 as needed. Act as a flexible team member capable of stepping into database platforms outside primary expertise when required, ensuring operational continuity across the broader database portfolio.

10% Provide routine and emergency 24x7 production support as part of an on‑call rotation. Respond to incidents, troubleshoot complex database issues, and restore service within defined SLAs. Perform root cause analysis (RCA), contribute to the problem management process, and implement corrective and preventive actions. Work nights and weekends as needed to resolve critical issues, implement changes, and perform planned maintenance.
