What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced COMSEC Lead Technologist to oversee and enhance our LAN/WAN infrastructure and communications security measures. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for providing leadership to a team of COMSEC personnel to ensure the integrity and security of sensitive information across our network systems. Additionally, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Department of Energy/Intelligence (DOE/IN) and Other Government Agency (OGA) sponsors, addressing their networking and COMSEC needs.

You will also be the lead technologist for the Community of Practice initiative for COMSEC, focusing on all Upper‑Level LAN connections across three Sandia locations:
New Mexico, Minnesota, and California.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality and security.
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive COMSEC policies to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of COMSEC material in both physical and electronic formats, including keying responsibilities.
  • Manage communications security accounts and create and maintain databases to ensure compliance with established procedures and instructions.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce robust network security measures.
  • Serve as the SME for DOE/IN and OGA sponsors, providing expert guidance and support for their networking and COMSEC requirements.
  • Lead the Community of Practice initiative for COMSEC, coordinating efforts for all Upper‑Level LAN connections across Sandia locations in New Mexico, Minnesota, and California.
  • Respond to security incidents, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of network configurations, security measures, and compliance protocols.
  • Provide technical support to end‑users and conduct training sessions on network security best practices.
  • Analyze, interpret, and implement communications and technical policies, procedures, and directives from the National Security Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and Other Government Agencies (OGA).
  • Author and maintain comprehensive documentation, including forms, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to program, corporate, and federal guidelines.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
