Salary: £24,000 – £28,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + expenses.
Employment Type: Full-Time.
We are seeking a technically-minded individual to join our IT Support team. This role is uniquely designed for a "Home Lab" enthusiast—someone who has developed their technical proficiency through personal projects and is now eager to transition those skills into a professional production environment.
The successful candidate will initially work from our Manchester office at The Sharp Project to complete a comprehensive induction and team integration period. Following this, the role will transition to a permanent work-from-home model.
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will possess a rare combination of technical curiosity and proven interpersonal skills. We find that individuals who have previously excelled in high-pressure, customer-facing environments—such as retail, hospitality, or sales—possess the communication skills vital for this role.
Crucially, you should be a self-starter who treats technology as a passion. Whether you are managing home servers, experimenting with networking, or automating tasks for fun, we value the hands‑on intuition gained from building and maintaining your own hardware or software environments.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Support: Delivering high‑quality troubleshooting and support for Windows, Microsoft 365, and Linux environments.
- Client Engagement: Conducting on‑site client visits (typically one day per week within Greater Manchester and one day per month further afield, such as Penrith or Birmingham).
- Innovation: Proactively using Power Shell scripting and AI tools to enhance efficiency and automate routine processes.
- Remote
Collaboration:
Maintaining high levels of engagement with the team through daily messaging and regular video consultations to ensure a cohesive working environment.
- Technical Proficiency: A strong foundational knowledge of IT systems, ideally demonstrated through personal projects or a "Home Lab."
- Customer Service Excellence: Proven experience in a customer‑facing role with the ability to translate complex technical issues for non-technical users.
- Mobility: A valid UK Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle are essential.
- Reliability: Comfort with occasional early starts for long‑distance client visits (compensated via Overtime or Time Off In Lieu).
- Communication: Willingness to use a personal mobile device for professional communication (associated costs, such as SIM upgrades, will be covered by the company).
- Travel Expenses: Business mileage is reimbursed at the standard HMRC rate (45p per mile). All additional business expenses are fully covered to ensure no out‑of‑pocket costs.
- Hardware: The company will provide all necessary professional equipment, including laptops and monitors.
- Operational Support: Comprehensive training is provided on our specific technology stack and production standards.
- Email your CV to Include a brief cover letter detailing your Home Lab setup or any personal technical projects you have undertaken. We are particularly interested in hearing how you have applied your technical interests in a practical setting.
