Our Customer, The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USA CE) is seeking a highly experienced and senior-level Network Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expert guidance and hands‑on support for our mission‑critical network infrastructure. The SME will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, and security of networks supporting critical national missions within a Department of War (DoW) Impact Level 5 (IL5) environment.
This role requires a deep understanding of advanced networking concepts, routing, switching, and DoD‑specific security protocols.
- Network Architecture & Design: Lead the design and planning of robust, scalable, and secure network architectures for both enterprise and tactical environments.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure all network components and configurations comply with DoD directives, Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and other relevant security policies.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Serve as the final escalation point for complex and persistent network issues, providing expert‑level diagnostics and resolution.
- Technology Modernization: Evaluate, recommend, and integrate new networking technologies and solutions to enhance performance, security, and mission capability.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid‑level network engineers, fostering skill development across the team.
- Mission Support: Collaborate with mission commanders and project managers to translate operational requirements into technical network solutions that ensure mission success.
- Experience:
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior or lead role within a large enterprise or DoD environment. - Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. - Certifications:
DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III compliant (e.g., Security+ CE, CASP+ CE, CISSP). - Professional‑level networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNP Enterprise, Juniper JNCIP).
- Expertise:
Proven experience with advanced routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), firewalls, VPNs, and network monitoring tools.
- Experience:
Direct experience with USACE or other Army network environments. - Certifications:
Expert‑level networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCIE, Juniper JNCIE). - Knowledge:
Familiarity with Software‑Defined Networking (SDN), cloud networking (AWS/Azure), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). - Education:
Master's degree in a relevant technical field.
