Lab Engineer

Overview

We need 1 individual to serve as a manual lab technician for the team, working alongside engineers to perform validation on Mac hardware across hundreds of units. The lab technician will be responsible for unboxing, racking, cabling, scanning, inventory management, lab maintenance, software/firmware updating, and assisting with experiments.

• Perform manual handling and maintenance of hundreds of Mac NP I hardware and test devices (unboxing, racking, cabling, scanning, inventory management, lab maintenance).
• Assist engineers with requests for regression or additional data.
• Keep track of hundreds of devices under test and peripherals.
• Set up hardware and perform regular software updates to hardware under test.
• Assist with experiments and ensure test setups are ready for validation.

Objective: 1x Lab Technician

• Manual tasks involved in racking and maintaining hundreds of Mac NPI hardware and test devices.
• Assistance to engineers with regression or data requests.
• Tracking of devices under test and peripherals.
• Hardware setup and regular software updates to hardware under test.

• 100% on-site role with no option for remote work. Must be on-site during working hours to support engineers and execute tests.
• Unboxing and racking on up to several dozen DUTs, peripherals, and other test units daily.
• Manually preparing hardware for testing via automated frameworks by cabling, configuring, and scanning test devices and equipment.
• Tearing down racks efficiently to free rack space for other projects.
• Be available on-site in the labs for troubleshooting and assisting engineers when problems arise.
• Maintain lab test equipment and infrastructure as requested by the team.
• Prioritizing tasks and communicating with team members to identify the correct order of tasks. Alert the team with ample notice if unable to complete tasks on time.
• Categorize and track test peripherals in the lab using internal tools.
• Ongoing documentation of test processes for future reference.
• Work on manual tasks required for maintaining or setting up new lab spaces.

• Ability to multitask and deliver results under competing priorities

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Available during standard working hours; may require longer days and/or weekends if needed.
• Available on-site 5 days a week.
• Able to travel between different buildings to support labs in different locations.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Austin location and expected to work in office and lab – 5 days a week – 9AM to 6PM.

• None required (we provide everything).

• Critical feedback is accepted and changes are made to improve if needed.
• All requests in the queue are performed in a timely manner within defined deadlines.
• Clear and timely communication with the team.
• Requests for support from the team are handled promptly and accurately (based on available instructions and attention to detail).
