The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Analyst to join our client's team on a contract basis at their site in Reading. This pivotal role involves leading the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics solutions that support strategic decision‑making and operational excellence within the defense and security domain. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing data governance, ensuring compliance with security standards, and driving innovation through emerging technologies.

This position offers a hybrid working model, allowing for flexible arrangements to balance on‑site and remote work, fostering a productive and collaborative environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data analysis, data management, and visualization, with proven experience in leading complex projects. Essential qualifications include advanced proficiency in SQL and data warehousing tools, expertise with visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau, and a solid understanding of data governance, security, and ethical considerations. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, leadership capabilities, and a track record of influencing technical decisions within multidisciplinary teams.

A background in cloud‑based or hybrid data environments, along with experience working in Agile or Dev Ops settings, will be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and implementation of advanced analytics solutions across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and data strategies.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and automated workflows utilizing tools such as SQL, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Define, implement, and monitor data governance, security, and compliance standards to safeguard sensitive information and uphold industry regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with data architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to shape effective data strategies and technical solutions.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders, facilitating data‑driven decision‑making processes at all levels of the organization.
  • Mentor and lead junior analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the team.
  • Drive innovation by exploring emerging data technologies, refining best practices, and enhancing data visualization techniques.
  • Manage work packages effectively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards are met.
Benefits

This role offers a competitive hourly rate of 87.15 p/h (Umbrella, inside IR35) and an initial contract duration of five months, with potential for extension based on project requirements.
