We are seeking a skilled Word Press Support Specialist to join our team as an ongoing contractor. This role involves managing maintenance, troubleshooting, and administrative requests within our support queue for a portfolio of custom‑coded Word Press client sites. It is a ticket‑based, asynchronous‑friendly position, ideal for an independent professional who can communicate clearly with non‑technical clients and consistently deliver accurate, clean work.
This is specifically a Word Press maintenance and support role, requiring deep knowledge of Word Press and server‑side fundamentals, not a design or new‑build position.
What You'll Do- Resolve incoming support tickets via Zendesk, covering content updates, plugin issues, broken layouts, and form troubleshooting.
- Perform edits and updates on custom‑coded Word Press sites, utilizing PHP and custom themes (no page builders).
- Manage and troubleshoot hosting issues, including cPanel, DNS records, SSL certificates, and domain configuration.
- Work with essential Word Press plugins such as ACF Pro, Gravity Forms, Classic Editor, Yoast SEO, and Custom Post Type UI.
- Assist with Google Workspace administration tasks, including user management, email setup, and permissions.
- Identify and escalation issues requiring developer‑level intervention.
- Communicate technical issues clearly and professionally in plain language to clients and internal team members.
- 3+ years of hands‑on Word Press experience with custom‑coded themes, not page builders.
- Demonstrable experience with custom PHP and the Word Press template hierarchy.
- Comfort working in Word Press sites built without Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, or similar tools.
- Experience with cPanel, DNS management, and SSL installation/renewal.
- Familiarity with ACF Pro, Gravity Forms, Classic Editor, and Yoast SEO.
- Experience using a ticketing system (Zendesk strongly preferred).
- Ability to write custom CSS (no Tailwind, no Bootstrap).
- Strong written communication skills, as you will often be the primary client contact for issue descriptions.
- Google Workspace administration experience (user management, email configuration, alias and permissions management).
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
- Experience supporting an agency client portfolio, managing multiple sites simultaneously.
- Upwork or other platform profile with verifiable reviews for support/maintenance work.
