As a Data Scientist, you will apply strategic and analytical skills to build monitoring solutions to combat money laundering. This role leads development and implementation of advanced data science models and algorithms. You will work with stakeholders to understand requirements, analyze large data sets, implement monitoring solutions in a fast-paced environment, drive best practices in data science, and ensure data quality.

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Pay Pal is committed to combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing, and related financial crimes. The Global Financial Crimes (GFC) organization develops and implements effective policies and analytics to detect and mitigate risk in line with AML/CTF and BRM policies. The GFC Analytics team seeks a candidate to join the Detections & Oversight Team to develop AML and BRM transaction monitoring rules, tune these rules for efficiency and effectiveness, and support GFC initiatives.

The successful candidate will have depth in data and statistical analysis, and understanding of global AML regulations.

Job Requirements

• Minimum of three years of experience in AML transaction monitoring, fraud detection, and AML/CFT.
• Minimum of two years of experience with development, tuning, and optimization of AML transaction monitoring rules using data and statistical analysis.
• Thorough understanding of AML typologies and monitoring processes to mitigate risks.
• Good understanding of transaction monitoring systems (custom or vendor) and standard monitoring rules/scenarios.
• Strong research, analytical, business acumen, and project leadership skills.
• Strong SQL skills using tools like Teradata, MS SQL, MySQL, Hadoop, Big Query.
• Experience in building models, queries, or software to analyze and visualize data (e.g., Tableau).
• Ability to analyze large datasets, draw meaningful conclusions, and make business recommendations.
• Strong written and oral communication skills across all levels of the business.
• Self-driven with ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in developing documentation meeting regulatory standards and audit requirements.
• Ability to prepare reports and updates to senior management.
• Ability to distill insights from data and present to business users.
• High energy and a results-oriented mindset in a fast growth environment.

The base pay for this role depends on location and experience. Pay ranges are provided for Scottsdale, AZ and Omaha, NE as part of the posting. Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentives. Pay Pal does not charge candidates any fees for recruitment processes.
