Freelance Senior Web Engineer

Overview

Human Made is seeking a Senior Web Engineer (external contractor / freelancer) to join our globally distributed team. You will work on Word Press projects, collaborate with senior engineers, and contribute to large-scale digital solutions. We are fully remote and have been for over 10 years.

• Take ownership at a project level for your own work and for work that interacts with yours
• Assist other developers on your projects
• Architect projects and complex subsystems
• Assess the pros and cons of different approaches to software architecture
• Carry out bug fixes and debugging across your projects
• Improve tooling, code, and communication on current or related projects
• Stay informed on development best practices
• Proactively address technical issues
• Push for performance and security improvements
• Provide architectural input for whole systems
• Write technical documentation for project architecture and decisions

• As an external contractor/freelancer, you should be able to join teams and onboard efficiently with autonomy and the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Excellent communication via remote work and experience with Agile project delivery
• Comprehensive understanding of modern web development with emphasis on PHP and JavaScript in a Word Press context
• Knowledge of Word Press components and technologies, including Word Press internals and ecosystem
• Ability to architect complex Word Press projects
• Engagement with wider company engineering team for activities such as code review and debugging assistance

• In-depth understanding of JavaScript and/or PHP
• Expert Word Press knowledge
• Ability to debug code
• Experience with debugging tools
• Expert HTML5 & CSS
• Experience with Git
• Solid MySQL understanding for database-driven apps
• Extensive experience with RESTful APIs
• Ability to set up local development environments
• English communication skills (written and spoken) with ability to parse technical terminology
• Ability to manage workload and juggle multiple tasks
• Understanding of performance considerations
• Understanding of security considerations
• Ability to architect complex subsystems
• Comprehensive understanding of Word Press
• Proven experience on large enterprise Word Press development projects
