Job SummaryNex Gen is seeking a detail-oriented Cybersecurity Monitoring Specialist to support enterprise-wide cybersecurity monitoring, tool oversight, and compliance activities for the Defense Human Resources Activity (DHRA). The role ensures continuous visibility into DHRA’s cybersecurity posture by validating tool operability, configuration compliance, log coverage, endpoint rollups, and IPS performance across NIPR and SIPR networks. The specialist works closely with Technical Services, CSSPs, system owners, and federal stakeholders to maintain secure and compliant operations.
SupervisoryResponsibilities
- There are no supervisory responsibilities.
- Monitor DHRA cybersecurity posture using government-mandated tools.
- Audit tool configurations and usage for compliance with DHRA requirements, DCDC orders, NIST controls, and CORA measures.
- Validate daily tool operability, connectivity, rollups, and updates; document status and report issues promptly.
- Conduct quarterly tool coverage reviews and support system owners in addressing gaps.
- Recommend improvements to cybersecurity toolsets and support implementation activities.
- Document baseline changes in systems such as Sparx and eMASS and follow DHRA governance processes.
- Develop and report quality assurance metrics related to tool deployment, configuration trends, and compliance.
- Maintain TTPs for cybersecurity tool monitoring.
- Validate log collection and coverage; ensure integration with CSSP logging systems.
- Validate endpoint security rollups (e.g., DISA CMRS) and recommend configuration optimizations.
- Analyze IPS events, reduce false positives, and recommend tuning adjustments.
- Support automated threat response and reporting mechanisms.
- Provide monitoring and oversight for SIPR-based tools, requiring on-site presence at Seaside or Mark Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 6+ years of cybersecurity monitoring or security operations experience.
- Experience with SIEM, endpoint security platforms, IPS/IDS, and vulnerability management tools.
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements (DCDC, NIST, CORA).
- Experience validating log coverage, endpoint rollups, and configuration compliance.
- Familiarity with eMASS, Sparx, or similar tools.
- Ability to analyze events, identify false positives, and recommend tuning.
- Experience in federal or DoD cybersecurity environments.
- Familiarity with DISA CMRS, DoD logging architectures, or CSSP integration.
- Understanding of cybersecurity governance and tool lifecycle management.
- Experience developing TTPs, metrics, or dashboards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Computer Science, or related field.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams.
- Must be able to pass background screening prior to employment.
- US Citizenship, legal permanent residence, or US work authorization with a minimum of 3 years of US presence is required due to federal contract requirement.
- Ability to work on-site at Seaside or Mark Center for SIPR tool oversight.
- Active Secret clearance required; ability to obtain TS/SCI preferred.
- Minimum 25% on-site at the Mark Center (Alexandria, VA) or DoD Center – Monterey Bay (Seaside, CA).
- Work hours:
8 a.m. Eastern to 5 p.m. Pacific, Monday–Friday, excluding federal holidays or government closures. - Incident response may require after-hours support with one-hour recall.
- Reliable internet (50 Mbps down / 25 Mbps up) and a secure remote work environment.

$55 per hour to $75 per hour, W2
The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions.
