Database Administrator; MySQL, Postgres

IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking a database administrator to manage our Postgres and MySQL environments. This position will be responsible for maintaining the database infrastructure of our production, dev/test, and disaster recovery environments to ensure stability and performance requirements are met; managing backup and off-site replication; managing patching and upgrades; building out an AWS-based Postgres architecture.

This is a full-time position in our Raleigh, NC office. The work schedule for this role is Monday-Friday in the office with the option to work from home one day per week.

• Administration of Postgre
  
  SQL and MySQL databases throughout the development and production life cycles
• Develop and maintain processes for optimizing database security and standards
• Perform upgrades using proper lifecycle management and testing
• Manage backup and recovery functions for a Postgre
  
  SQL environment
• Monitors performance issues on all production and non-production databases (as applicable) implementing performance monitoring and trending on all production and applicable non-production databases
• Assist development groups in optimizing SQL statements in applications, batch jobs, and reports and in designing and using databases and database applications and processes for maximum performance, security, reliability, and availability.

• Coordinate with engineering teams to keep database software up-to-date

• BS in Computer Science or IT related field
• 4+ years of IT experience
• 3+ years Relational Database Administrator (working with Postgre
  
  SQL 14+, MySQL
  8)
• Working knowledge of relational databases (Postgre
  
  SQL / MySQL / MSSQL) Architecture
• Working knowledge of Cloud Platforms RDS / Cloud
  
  SQL (Postgres, MySQL, and Aurora)
• Mongo
  
  DB Experience is a plus
• Scripting experience, Shell, Python are a plus
• 3+ years of experience in any other database administration is a plus
• Strong communication and interaction skills
• Eagerness to continue learning
