General FunctionAs a Principal User Experience Designer, you will provide strategic leadership and vision for user experience across Hy-Vee’s digital ecosystem. This role focuses on driving UX strategy, influencing product direction, and ensuring cohesive, scalable, and accessible experiences across platforms. Principal Designers operate as trusted advisors, lead large and ambiguous initiatives, mentor designers, and champion user-centered thinking at an organizational level.

- Define and influence UX strategy across multiple products and initiatives
- Lead experience design for highly complex, high-impact, or ambiguous problem spaces
- Partner with senior leaders, Product, Engineering, and Business stakeholders to align UX with organizational goals
- Advocate for the user at a strategic level, balancing customer needs with business outcomes
- Establish best practices, standards, and frameworks for UX design and research
- Guide and mentor designers through critique, coaching, and thought leadership
Plan and oversee advanced research efforts, ensuring insights inform product strategy - Synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative data into actionable insights
- Present compelling experience visions, design strategies, and research findings to executive audiences
- Ensure consistency, quality, and accessibility across digital experiences
- Drive evolution of the Design System and contribute to long-term scalability
- Stay informed on emerging UX trends, tools, and accessibility standards
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience
- 9–12 years of related user experience design experience
Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.
Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: operating a computer, occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.
Must be able to perform the following physical activities: meeting with customers, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
