Platform Engineer
Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based
We are looking for a Platform Engineer to manage and improve our Azure Dev Ops CI/CD Platform. The team manages Azure Dev Ops Services and Server for Development Teams releasing to on‑premises and Cloud (Azure) infrastructure, managing day‑to‑day operations to keep the platform secure, compliant, and reliable. The engineer supports teams through service requests, incidents, and by providing enabling services and engineering accelerators.
The Platform Engineer applies Dev Ops principles and practices to the management of the platform.
About the role- Help manage Royal London’s Azure Dev Ops Platform ensuring it remains secure.
- Support teams to develop and deploy solutions, including enablement assignments with Product Teams to build, enhance, or maintain CI/CD pipelines and agent images.
- Design and deliver engineering accelerators required by Product Teams to maintain their Application Lifecycle Management.
- Develop automation for all aspects of platform service management, including patching, upgrades, and changes.
- Apply Dev Ops principles and tools, exploiting cloud containers and infrastructure‑as‑code capabilities to improve the automated provisioning, testing, and operation of platform technologies and services.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and maturity of CI/CD services by implementing and improving pipelines, managing complexity, and ensuring integrity, security, and reliability.
- Maintain knowledge, documentation, and standards in technical communities.
- Create reusable modules that are scalable and maintainable for multiple development teams and environments, ensuring best practice is implemented.
- Identify risks and issues; champion effective resolution with thorough root‑cause analysis and clear impact assessment.
- Integrate platforms with operational and configuration automation tooling and pipelines to continuously improve service reliability, security, and management.
- Azure Dev Ops using Git CI/CD is a must; other CI/CD tooling experience is desirable.
- Terraform or other infrastructure‑as‑code tools are desirable.
- Azure Cloud experience is essential; additional cloud experience (e.g. AWS) is accepted.
- Power Shell or other scripting experience is essential.
- Strong Windows or strong Linux experience.
- Package management experience.
- Desirable skills include Azure SQL, Python.
