Role Summary

You will play a pivotal role in helping us achieve moving to modern cloud based architecture with a true Dev Ops mindset to make sure we give a great experience to our suppliers and customers at any moment of the day, because that’s the Farnell way.

Office Location

Office located in Leeds – Our roles are hybrid working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Candidate Profile
  • You are passionate about Agile, Dev Ops and all things in automation! You’re excited at the prospect of influencing & driving forward our Agile/Dev Ops transformation and bringing your expertise of cloud-based technologies to the business.
Skills & Experience
  • You have solid technical experience of building and deploying applications using tools such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Git Lab CI, Azure Dev Ops, Jenkins, WCBD, Maven and Ant. Ideally, within a Java Enterprise environment.
  • You will ideally have experience using Dynatrace
  • You have in-depth knowledge of Agile, Dev Ops and CI/CD best practices
  • You have practical experience of working in a Unix/Linux environment including system administration and scripting – bash, python/jython, perl, yaml and awk
  • You have deployment/configuration experience with Java application servers both on-prem and in the cloud (Experience on either IBM Web Sphere or Oracle Web Logic is highly sought)
  • You have knowledge of Dev Ops, infrastructure as a code and provisioning tools such as Ansible and Terraform
  • You love to solve complex technical problems and find solutions that drive business and customer value
  • You have great communication skills and are able to use them to build solid relationships with all levels of the business
Responsibilities
  • As a Dev Ops Engineer, you will be a part of our dev ops team who will take our existing build/release management toolset and modernise it to a high performing, automated, CI/CD pipeline(s) as we look to drive quality, stability and performance of our transactional websites while also shortening release cycles and enabling us to deliver better value to our customers more quickly.

Duties
  • You will help shape our future tech state and influence how Farnell implements new technologies such as Docker, Open Shift, AKS, Node.js, Graph

    QL and Ansible to name but a few
  • You will work closely with our Agile Scrum teams to implement Agile/Dev Ops best practices throughout the whole SDLC
  • You will work with our SREs to help monitor, troubleshoot and fix any performance and reliability issues with our Live websites
  • You will help to rollout the Agile/Dev Ops way of working to other parts of the stack such as ERP and all associated integrations
  • You will help to implement our migration from on-prem to cloud-based (Azure) solutions
