Systems Engineer
Systems Engineer (IT@JH Enterprise)
Join Inside Higher Ed to support Johns Hopkins University and Medicine across all faculty, staff, students, and administrative departments. This role focuses on email technologies such as JH Email Gateway (Cisco Iron Ports), Listserv (Sympa), and Microsoft Exchange hosted on Windows and Linux systems.
Job Scope & ComplexityDevelop solutions based on extensive technical knowledge, influence clients toward innovative integrated solutions. Manage full life cycle of medium to large complex projects that impact critical systems. Project scope can span enterprise‑wide level with impacts on broader customer base.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Design complex business, clinical, education, or infrastructure solutions by meeting with customers to understand current processes.
- Provide written documentation and diagrams of findings to share with clients and IT colleagues.
- Select infrastructure applications that conform to policies and best practices.
- Develop new methods to improve service processes, performance, and functionality.
- Research, recommend, and implement new technologies.
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, operating systems, and infrastructure applications.
- Perform complex system administration, monitoring, tuning, scripting, upgrades, and backups.
- Collaborate on project lifecycle: change management, RFP development, vendor evaluation, testing, and documentation.
- Lead and support email‑related projects such as migrations, upgrades, integrations, and documentation.
- Provide input for internal roadmap planning and infrastructure decisions.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Four years related experience.
- Experience substitution per JHU equivalency formula.
- Advanced skills in Automation, Cloud Migration, Directory Services, Operating Software, Scripting, SDLC, Analysis, Configuration, Design, Development, Engineering, Integration.
Starting Salary: $73,300 – $128,300 per year, commensurate with experience.
Remote work – part of the JHU IT@JH Enterprise Directory and Messaging team.
Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
