Job SummaryThe Research Cyberinfrastructure group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Information Technology is hiring a Research Cyberinfrastructure Consultant. The Research Cyberinfrastructure Consultant will provide end user support and training for researchers using enterprise-wide applications for data storage, movement, and sharing. You will provide support and guidance to researchers to enable them to better manage their data, automate data movement and computing workflows, and apply roles and permissions for secure sharing of data with collaborators.
In this role, you will be responsible for responding to user requests and issues related to the University's research storage and data transfer infrastructure. You will develop and deliver workshops, training, and documentation for researchers, in partnership with groups in central and distributed IT, research computing centers, and the Libraries. This candidate may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved flexible work arrangement (FWA), which is reviewed and approved annually.
Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee. - Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools and colleges
- Write and update documentation and tutorials supporting CI activities for research
- Perform troubleshooting, analysis, operation, and support of advanced computing systems for research
- Provide direct support of users of advanced computing systems for research
- May provide support for development of custom Cyber Infrastructure solutions for research needs
- May develop and facilitate brief courses for internal researchers
Division of Information Technology, CTO Office, Research Cyberinfrastructure. The Office of the Chief Technology Officer supports the university in working toward a more flexible, cohesive and agile IT infrastructure to reduce complexity and modernize existing systems. The Research Cyberinfrastructure unit, within the Division of Information Technology, partners extensively with groups in central and distributed IT, research computing centers, the Data Science Institute, and the Libraries.
CompensationStarting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well qualified applicants can anticipate to earn between $65,000 – $75,000, with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
Required Qualifications- Experience supporting researchers and/or other clients as a member of an IT, Library, or computing service organization or research lab, group, or center
- Experience developing technical documentation, tutorials, training, or other support materials for end users
- Coding skills in one or more of the following:
Python, R, or comparable language(s) - Basic skills and experience with at least one of the following platforms: RStudio, Jupyter, Git Hub/Git Lab, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure
- Experience developing automated processes for data analysis, extraction, or formatting using REST APIs, scripting languages, or other tools
- Familiarity with current storage, computation, and data-intensive workflows in one or more research disciplines
- Experience serving as a point of contact and technical support for users of information or computing systems
