Position SummaryPearson Virtual Schools (PVS) is hiring a Systems Administrator in Baltimore, MD to support our nationwide School IT Services. Candidates should have practical experience in the support and administration of various IT services, be able to manage tasks in a highly technical environment, and possess professional customer service and independent troubleshooting skills. The role is 95% work-from-home, with occasional in-person visits to schools, customers, or Pearson offices as required.
Equipment- Company-provided: 2 primary laptops, up to 10 test devices/peripherals, 4 external monitors, additional hardware to support multiple primary computers and test devices
- Employee-provided (when working from home): headset (required), keyboard (required), mouse (required)
- Provide technical support and roll out solutions in planning, coordination, design, configuration, implementation, upgrade, and ongoing maintenance/monitoring of school staff and student technology and applications.
- Escalate and resolve school staff and student tech support issues using proven troubleshooting techniques.
- Assist with daily technical problems and other tasks for internal and external customers.
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows (workstation and server), Chrome
OS, Chrome
OS Flex, Apple iPads, and printers. - Administer and troubleshoot all apps on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure environments.
- Configure devices for staff and students to ensure access to required tools and resources.
- Build, deploy, maintain, and manage servers running domain controllers, file and print, web, Linux, SharePoint, and DNS/DHCP services.
- Gather, evaluate, and assess key application functions relative to customer needs.
- Mentor Service Desk teams supporting our customers.
- Act as primary escalation point for support desks, handling requests via ticketing systems, email, IM, or in person.
- Track and close open tickets across multiple ticketing systems.
- Prioritize, communicate, and complete tasks across diverse projects.
- Participate in conference calls and gather business requirements from stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively on team projects and complete technical tasks on time without supervision.
- Create, document, and follow standard processes and procedures.
- Contribute to and maintain a knowledge base repository.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of systems administration experience in a large enterprise environment.
- Availability for on-call, evenings, weekends, and 24x7 support during critical outages.
- Ability to understand, integrate, plan, prioritize, and organize work for dynamic environments.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Independent work capabilities with minimal supervision.
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
